An exhibit of the occupational lungs disease exhibition that will begin at AFD on 23 January 2026.

An Exhibition on Bangladesh’s Cotton Spinning Industry and Occupational Lung Disease.

Alliance Française de Dhaka (Gulshan) presents Into My Lungs, a multimedia, research-driven artistic exhibition that explores Bangladesh’s cotton spinning industry and the occupational lung disease byssinosis. The exhibition runs from 23 January to 7 February 2026, with the opening ceremony on 23 January at 4:00 PM. Into My Lungs is developed by artists Ayman Alazraq and Emanuel Svedin, and produced and curated by Fouzia Mahin Choudhury. The project combines investigative fieldwork and artistic expression to foreground the lived experiences of textile workers—an often overlooked yet essential part of Bangladesh’s textile value chain.

Into My Lungs focuses on byssinosis, a largely undiagnosed and potentially fatal lung disease caused by prolonged exposure to cotton dust, affecting workers in cotton and jute spinning mills, an essential yet often overlooked segment of Bangladesh’s textile value chain. While the country’s garment industry has received global attention, the severe health risks, low wages, and poor working conditions within spinning mills remain largely unaddressed.

The exhibition brings together a documentary film, an interpretive installation, and public discussions with artists, medical professionals, activists, and industry experts. Grounded in extensive field research conducted between 2021 and 2022 across key textile regions in Bangladesh, Into My Lungs aims to raise awareness, correct misconceptions, and foster informed dialogue around labour, health, and ethical textile production. By presenting the project in Bangladesh, Into My Lungs places local experiences at the centre of a global conversation, encouraging awareness, accountability, and meaningful change.
