Two people were killed and at least ten others injured when a pickup van overturned in Ashtagram upazila of the district on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Hadis Mia, 50, and Nur Alam, 45, both residents of the Mithamoin Ghagra area.

According to police and local sources, a group of 15 people were travelling in a pickup van from Mithamoin Ghagra to visit a shrine in Brahmanbaria. When the vehicle reached the Zero Point area of Ashtagram, the driver lost control of the van, causing it to crash into an electricity pole on the roadside and overturn.

Several passengers sustained injuries in the accident. Local residents rushed to the scene and rescued the injured, taking them to the Ashtagram Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared Hadis Mia and Nur Alam dead.

Confirming the incident, Ashtagram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Soyeb Khan said that five of the injured were admitted to the Ashtagram Upazila Health Complex, while the remaining five were referred to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital in Kishoreganj, reports BSS.

The bodies of the deceased were sent to the morgue of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital for post-mortem, the OC added.
