Two brothers were killed and two others injured in a tragic road accident early today when a passenger bus collided head-on with a battery-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway in the Majhira area of Shahjahanpur upazila.

The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. in front of PROYASH School, leaving the auto-rickshaw crushed and its passengers critically injured.

The deceased have been identified as Md Akash, 25, and Md Arif, 21, sons of Hazrat Ali from Bonmaricha village under Sherpur upazila. Akash died on the spot, while Arif succumbed to his injuries after being taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital (SZMCH).

Two maternal uncles of the deceased -- Haider Ali and Abdul Aziz -- were also injured in the crash and are currently undergoing treatment at SZMCH.

Officer-in-Charge of Shahjahanpur Police Station, Shafiqul Islam Polash, confirmed the incident and said the Sherpur-bound auto-rickshaw was struck by the bus in the early hours, causing extensive damage, reports BSS.

Emergency services, including fire personnel and police, responded swiftly to the scene and carried out rescue operations.
