Four people sustained burn injuries in a gas line explosion at Manju Textile in Kazi Para area of Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj district on Thursday morning.

The explosion occurred around 8:30am, according to officials.

The injured — identified as security guards Md Kabir, 45, and Md Hannan, 52, along with accounts officer Md Saiful Islam, 25 — were admitted to the emergency unit of National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Name of another one injured could not be known immediately.

Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the institute, said four burn victims were brought in from Narayanganj. Among them, one suffered 53 percent burns, another 40 percent, one 34 percent, and another only 2 percent.

The patient with 2 percent burns has been released, while the rest have been admitted due to their critical condition, he said and adding that all three admitted patients have sustained burns in their airways, making their conditions serious.

Saiful’s father said his son was inspecting the factory premises along with the two security guards when the explosion occurred due to a gas leak. All four victims were rushed to the hospital immediately after the incident, reports UNB.
