Child Dies After Being Struck by BGB Vehicle in Cox's Bazar

An 8-year-old child, Mohammad Samim, was killed today (21 February) after being hit by a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) vehicle while crossing the Marine Drive road in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar.


The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. in front of Hazampara Govt Primary School in Baharchhara union. According to Farid Ullah, a member of the union parishad, several children were playing near the road when Samim attempted to cross but suddenly fell in front of the BGB vehicle.

The vehicle struck the child, causing severe injuries. With the help of locals, BGB personnel rushed Samim to Cox's Bazar 250-Bed District Sadar Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Md Nazmul Haque, a police officer on security duty at the hospital, confirmed that the body has been placed in the hospital morgue.

Lieutenant Colonel Md Ashiqur Rahman, commanding officer of the Teknaf-2 Battalion of the BGB, explained that the accident occurred during the "Coastal Ultra Marathon" event. BGB vehicles were assisting the event when the child ran across the road and fell in front of one of the vehicles.

Officer-in-Charge of Teknaf Police Station Mohammad Gias Uddin stated that he was unaware of the incident, adding that no complaint has been filed by the family.
