Two people were killed and another person was injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw crashed into a stationary truck on the roadside in Sadar upazila of Sirajganj early Friday.

The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Ashiq, 35, son of Ali Akter Fakir of Kuthirchar village in Kamarkhanda upazila, and passenger Thakur Halder, 70, son of Gutu Rajbangshi of Kalinja village in Raiganj upazila.

Relatives and locals said Thakur Halder and his son Bishnu Halder left home early in the morning with a fishing net.

They were travelling towards Sirajganj town from Bazar Bhadraghat in Kamarkhanda upazila in the auto-rickshaw.

When the vehicle reached Bahuti Battala on the Sirajganj-Nalka regional highway, it crashed into the rear of the truck parked on the roadside around 5:00am, killing Ashiq and Thakur on the spot, and injuring Bishnu.

Locals rescued Bishnu and took him to Sirajganj Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Sub-Inspector of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station Shafiqul Islam said relatives took away the bodies home before police arrived at the scene.

Ismail Hossain, nephew of deceased driver Ashiq, said his uncle left home with the auto-rickshaw in the early hours, reports UNB.

“At around 6:00am, we received the news that my uncle was injured in an accident. When we reached the spot, we found him dead,” he said.
