Dhaka was engulfed in dense fog from early Friday morning, as temperatures dropped to the low 13-degree range, intensifying the winter chill in the capital.

From dawn, a thick blanket of fog covered various parts of the city, reducing visibility and giving the impression of mist falling like rain.

As it was a weekly holiday, streets were relatively quiet, though those venturing out for urgent work faced significant discomfort due to the biting cold.

Vehicles moved cautiously with headlights on, and slow traffic was reported in several areas because of the fog.

The Meteorological Department offered some relief, forecasting that daytime temperatures may rise slightly, which could ease the cold.

In its six-hour forecast starting from 7:00am on Friday, the weather office said the sky may remain temporarily partly cloudy, with dry weather likely to prevail. Moderate to dense fog is expected to persist, while winds from the north or northwest may blow at speeds of 5 to 10 kilometres per hour.

At 6:00am, Dhaka’s temperature was recorded at 13.6°C, with humidity at 95%. The city’s minimum temperature for the day was 13.5°C.
