An Automated Weather Station (AWS) has been set up at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), campus. Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Latif, Vice Chancellor, SAU unveiled the Station on February 12, 2025.

The Automated Weather Station (AWS) is a system designed to collect and transmit real-time meteorological data without the need for human intervention.

It consists of various sensors, a data logger, and a communication system to measure and report weather parameters such as: Temperature, Humidity, Atmospheric pressure, Wind speed and direction, Precipitation (rainfall, snowfall, etc.), Solar radiation, Soil moisture and temperature. AWS provides real-time data to meteorological organizations for accurate weather predictions.

In Agriculture, such weather station helps farmers monitor weather conditions for crop planning, irrigation, and pest control.

Vice Chancellor Prof Abdul Latif firmly hoped that this Automated Weather Station will enhance students’ practical knowledge to get acquainted with different aspects of weather and climate relating to crop production.

Among others Prof. Dr. Md. Belal Hossain, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Sarowar Hossain, Director, Planning, Development and Works Division and other faculties and officials were present.

It may be mentioned here that this Automated Weather Station has been established under the initiative and dedicated work of Prof. Dr. H. M. M Tariq Hossain, of the Department of Agronomy, SAU. Prof. Tariq told this correspondent that he was working for establishing this AWS at SAU for the last few years but due to official complicacies it was not possible. Meanwhile, Prof. Tariq said that the present SAU Vice Chancellor Prof. Abdul Latif took quick action and succeeded in establishing the AWS within a short period of time.
