DSCC suspends parking fee collection at Babubazar Bridge

Dhaka, Aug 26 —The Property Department of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has suspended until further orders the ongoing lease and khas collection of parking fees at the newly constructed car parking area under Babubazar Bridge in Ward No. 32.

The suspension covers 28,051.12 square feet of open space divided into four blocks, A to D.

The decision followed a report published in Jugantar on August 25 under the headline “Public extortion using City Corporation tokens in Babubazar,” which, according to an office order, tarnished the city corporation's image.

The office order said no parking fee can be collected at the site in violation of the suspension.

It warned that legal action would be taken if anyone collects parking fees there despite the order.

Wishing to remain anonymous, a senior officer of the DMP's traffic department said the parking area will play a vital role in easing traffic congestion there. - UNB
