Two children drowned in a pond in Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh on Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred in Kashipur village. The deceased, Samiya (9), daughter of Yasin Mia of Kashipur, and Jihad (8) from nearby Khoichapur village in Fulpur upazila, had gone to Jihad’s grandfather’s house when the tragedy happened.

Locals said the children went to bathe in a pond in front of Yasin Mia’s house. When they did not return home after a long time, family members began searching for them. They were later found floating in the water.

Both children were immediately rescued and taken to Dhobaura Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced them dead, reports UNB.

Dhobaura police station officer-in-charge, Al Mamun Sarkar, said, “I have heard that two children drowned in the pond. Their bodies have been taken home by family members. We have sent police to investigate the area.”
