Two children drowned in a pond today in Mominpur village under Yadunathpur union of Dhanbari upazila of the district.

The deceased were Sharif, 3, son of Abdul Barek, and Arafat, 4, son of Omar Ali, both residents of the same village.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhanbari Police Station SM Shahidullah confirmed the matter.

According to locals, Sharif and Arafat were playing near a pond around 8am. When they did not return home, family members began an extensive search. Eventually, locals discovered floating bodies of them in the pond.

They were immediately rescued and taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor announced both of them dead.

Later, the bodies were handed over to their relatives, the OC said.
