A tragic incident occurred on Friday afternoon when a boat carrying a group of passengers capsized in the Padma River, resulting in the drowning of a young couple. The bodies of the victims, identified as Hridoy Pramanik, 23, and his wife, Mou Akhter, 19, were recovered by police on Saturday morning.

According to Abdul Alim, the in-charge of Sujanagar Fire Service, the couple was among 20 to 25 passengers aboard a shallow-engine-powered boat en route across the river near Kanchan Park in Satbaria, Sujanagar upazila. The boat capsized unexpectedly while crossing the river, throwing passengers into the water.

Although most of the passengers managed to swim to safety with the help of local residents, Hridoy and Mou went missing and were presumed drowned.

Local sources reported that the tragic event took place during the busy Eid holiday period, as many travelers were making their way back to Dhaka via the nearby Paturia ferry ghat.
