Tourist drowns at Sugandha Point of Cox's Bazar
A tourist drowned and two others were rescued alive after being swept away by waves while retrieving a floating football at Sugandha Point of Cox's Bazar sea beach on Friday evening.
The deceased was identified as Mofazzal Imam Seemanto, a resident of Kishoreganj district.
According to Beach Workers In-Charge Mahabubur Rahman, a group of nine friends went bathing at the beach on Friday evening and were playing with a football. At one point, the ball drifted into the sea, and three of them went to retrieve it. All three were suddenly swept away by strong currents.
Beach workers and Sea-Safe Lifeguard personnel rushed to the scene and managed to rescue two of them alive, while Seemanto went missing.
Following a two-and-a-half-hour search operation, teams from the Fire Service, Sea-Safe Lifeguards and beach workers recovered Seemanto's body from the Green Nature area near Sugandha Point.
Sheikh Mohammad Ali, Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), said the two injured individuals are receiving treatment at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, while the body of the deceased has been kept at the hospital morgue, reports UNB.
