Police recovered the floating body of a madrasa student from the Mayuri Residential Lake in Khulna on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Soaeb, son of Hasib Mia of Boyra Cross Road in Sonadanga. He was a student of a local madrasa.

Sub-Inspector Jahangir Molla of Harintana Police Station, quoting family members, said Soaeb had a habit of leaving home without informing anyone. He went out on Wednesday afternoon and did not return home.

His family searched for him at different places throughout the night but failed to locate him.

Local residents spotted his body floating in the lake around 9 am on Thursday and informed police, who later recovered the body. His parents rushed to the scene after receiving the news.

The police officer said preliminary information suggests Soaeb did not know how to swim. He may have slipped into the lake while attempting to enter the water and drowned. An injury mark was found on his head.

However, police said the exact cause of death would be determined after a thorough investigation, reports BSS.

The body will be handed over to the family after completion of the necessary legal procedures, police added.
