Two people were killed by electrocution in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah.

The incident occurred today in the Baganmath area of Bashbaria village under the upazila.

The deceased were Rafiqul Sarker, 54, son of the late Jamshed Sarker of Bathanmath village, and Nur Alam Babu, 45, son of the late Abu Sama of the same area.

According to police, farmer Rafiqul Sarker went to his paddy field at noon to spray pesticides, where he was electrocuted after coming into contact with a snapped wire from an irrigation pump motor.

Noticing the incident, Nur Alam Babu, who was working in a nearby field, rushed to help but was also electrocuted. Both died on the spot.

Later, other farmers in the field saw their bodies lying on the ground and informed the police, who arrived at the scene and recovered them.

Sub-Inspector Rezaul Samaddar of Maheshpur Police Station said signs of electrocution were found on the bodies, and the victims' families did not wish to file any complaint.

Officer-in-Charge of Maheshpur Police Station, Mehedi Hasan, said the bodies were handed over to the families without autopsy upon their consent.

Legal procedures are underway, and the bodies will be buried by their families, reports BSS.

An unnatural death case will be filed in this connection.
