The construction of the Motijheel to Kamalapur section of Dhaka's metro rail project has reached 50% completion, with the authorities aiming to finish the 1.16-kilometre extension by next year.

Md Zakaria, Project Director of Metro Line-6, reported that progress on the section has been swift. “We are focused on finalizing the construction and other agreements for the electrical and mechanical systems,” he told BSS.

An agreement for the installation of the Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) system is expected to be signed with the contractor in June, setting the stage for the section’s completion by next year. Following the agreement, the contractor will work on the track and signaling system.

The project has seen significant progress, with 37 out of 39 pillars for the metro station already erected. All station columns have been completed, and 298 precast segments have been finished at the construction yard. Additionally, 8 of the 27 spans have been installed, and the 180-metre long concourse floor is now complete. 90 out of 180 metres of track slabs have also been finished, and all 824 precast parapet walls have been manufactured.

The project director highlighted the fast-paced construction at the Kamalapur Metro Station and the viaduct connecting Motijheel to Kamalapur.

Part of Bangladesh’s first Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6, the elevated route spans from Uttara to Kamalapur, covering a total of 21.26 kilometres. MRT Line-6 has been operational from Uttara to Motijheel since November 2023, with plans to connect the line to Kamalapur Railway Station via a skywalk.
