Pakistani authorities have issued a tender to procure 100,000 tonnes of rice from private companies for export to Bangladesh.

The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) released the tender last Thursday, which became publicly known on Monday. This marks the latest export move since Bangladesh and Pakistan resumed government-to-government trade in February, following decades of limited trade relations.

Companies, partnerships, and sole proprietors have until Friday morning to submit separate sealed bids for the supply of 100,000 tonnes of long-grain white rice (IRRI-6) for export as break bulk cargo via Karachi ports.

Traders have suggested the tender may help supplement Bangladesh’s rice import supplies, with market expectations that some Indian-origin rice could also be used to meet recent purchases.
