Muhammad Wasif, charge d’affaires of the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka, held a courtesy meeting on Sunday with Mahmud Hasan Khan, president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

The meeting took place at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka. Wasif was accompanied by Zain Aziz, the High Commission’s trade and investment attache. From BGMEA, Vice President Md. Rezwan Salim and Directors Faisal Samad, Sumaiya Islam, and Fahima Akter attended.

Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral trade and investment in the readymade garment and textile sectors, while exploring other potential areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The dialogue highlighted Pakistan’s strong global position in textile production and Bangladesh’s leading role in apparel manufacturing. Both sides considered increasing textile imports from Pakistan and boosting exports of ready-made garments and accessories from Bangladesh to Pakistan.

BGMEA President Khan suggested that Pakistan could import textile waste from Bangladesh to support its growing recycling industry. He also highlighted Bangladesh’s status as the world’s largest jute producer, noting potential demand for jute fibre in Pakistan.

Both parties agreed to collaborate through knowledge exchange, business delegations, and joint exhibitions and workshops to expand trade.

They also discussed advancing the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between BGMEA and the Pakistan Readymade Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) to strengthen bilateral trade.

President Khan emphasised the need for active business participation from both countries for the successful execution of the MoU.
