Gold prices in Bangladesh have surged to an all-time high, exceeding global market rates, following the latest adjustment by the Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (Bajus).

As of Sunday, 22-carat hallmarked gold is being sold at Tk167,833 per bhori (11.664 grams), the highest price ever recorded in the country.

This comes after two recent increases—Tk3,033 per bhori on Wednesday and another Tk2,624 per bhori announced on Saturday, which took effect Sunday.

Globally, the current spot price of gold stands at approximately $3,328.30 per ounce (31.1035 grams), equivalent to around Tk402,724. In comparison, the local rate in Bangladesh amounts to about Tk447,548 per ounce—Tk44,824 higher than the global price.

Goldman Sachs has projected that global gold prices could rise to $3,700 per ounce by the end of 2025.

Under the revised rates in Bangladesh, 21-carat gold is priced at Tk160,205 per bhori, 18-carat at Tk137,309, and traditional method gold at Tk113,491 per bhori.

Previously, the prices were Tk165,209 for 22-carat gold, Tk157,697 for 21-carat, Tk135,174 for 18-carat, and Tk111,660 for traditional gold.

According to Bajus, the prices include 5 percent VAT as required by the government, along with a 6 percent minimum wage component set by the association. The actual wage may vary depending on jewellery design and craftsmanship.
