Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander Khokhin, along with 20 members of his diplomatic team and their families, embarked on a memorable visit to the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest, to experience its unmatched natural beauty during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.

The extended Eid vacation this year has seen an influx of tourists to the Sundarbans, with Khokhin and his delegation choosing the serene environment of the forest for their getaway. Forest officials confirmed their visit to BSS, noting that the Sundarbans is a preferred destination for both local and international tourists during the holiday season.

From April 1-2, the Russian delegation, accompanied by government officials, visited key spots, including the renowned Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Center. Karamjal is one of the most accessible and popular tourist sites, renowned for its diverse wildlife and natural attractions.

During this festive period, over 10,000 visitors, both local and foreign, flocked to Karamjal and six other major tourist locations in the Sundarbans, forest officials reported.

Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Center is home to various species such as spotted deer, crocodiles, monkeys, and turtles. The unique calls of these animals, resonating through the dense jungle, provide an unforgettable experience for visitors.

The Russian Ambassador and his delegation were visibly impressed by the vibrant wildlife, particularly the spotted deer, crocodiles, and monkeys. To fully immerse themselves in the stunning landscape, the group climbed the center's watch tower, offering a panoramic view of the Sundarbans' vast greenery and its distinctive natural scenery.

Md. Azad Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of Karamjal Tourism and Wildlife Center in the Eastern Forest Division’s Chandpai Range, shared that the number of tourists visiting the Sundarbans this Eid holiday was significantly higher than previous years. Several foreign dignitaries, including the Russian Ambassador, chose to visit Karamjal during their stay.

In line with instructions from higher authorities, the forest department ensured uninterrupted services for foreign tourists, even during the holiday period. Officials attribute the surge in tourist numbers to the nine-day-long Eid vacation and the peaceful political climate in the country, both of which contributed to the increased influx of visitors.

The growing interest in the Sundarbans highlights its status as a prime destination for nature lovers, cementing its place as one of Bangladesh’s most treasured ecological sites.
