
The system will enable VAT-registered taxpayers to apply for refunds, have their claims processed, and receive their due amounts directly into their bank accounts through the Bangladesh Electronic Fund Transfer Network (BEFTN), eliminating the need for physical visits to VAT offices, said a press release on Monday.
The new module is integrated with the existing Integrated VAT Administration System (iVAS) and linked to the Finance Division’s iBAS++ platform.
Once a refund is approved by the relevant VAT Commissionerate after necessary verification under VAT laws, the amount will be automatically transferred to the taxpayer’s designated bank account.
NBR officials said the initiative will significantly reduce the time and cost previously required for taxpayers to submit refund applications in person and collect refund cheques manually.
The online refund system is expected to enhance transparency, strengthen compliance, and ensure faster service delivery.
However, taxpayers with pending refund claims submitted earlier either online or in hard copy will now need to reapply using Form VAT-9.1 through the iVAS portal.
To facilitate smooth implementation, training programmes have already been conducted for officials and staff of all VAT Commissionerates.
Taxpayers have been advised to contact their respective VAT offices for necessary guidance and support regarding online refund applications, reports UNB.
