Two Bangladeshi nationals were killed and several others injured after members of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly opened fire near the border in Brahmanbaria’s Kasba upazila late Friday night.

The deceased were identified as Mursalin, 19, an HSC examinee for the 2026 session and a student of Alhaj Shah Alam Degree College, and Nobir Hossain, 40, a resident of Madhupur village in the area.

According to local residents, the incident took place around midnight in the Manikyamura area along the Tripura border near Dhajnagar under Kasba upazila. A group of around 30 to 35 people was reportedly near the barbed-wire fence when BSF personnel allegedly fired shots toward them.

Mursalin and Nobir Hossain died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries during the firing, locals said. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals and clinics for treatment.

Officials of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) later confirmed that two Bangladeshis had been killed in the incident. Earlier reports had indicated only one fatality.

Authorities said the bodies of the deceased were initially kept in the custody of the BSF on the Indian side of the border. Efforts were underway to recover the bodies through official communication and a flag meeting between the two border forces.

Local administration officials said they had received information about the deaths and that the BGB was handling the matter through diplomatic and border-level procedures.

Border tensions and shootings involving civilians occasionally occur along sections of the Bangladesh-India frontier, often triggering concern among local residents and human rights groups. Officials from both countries are expected to discuss the latest incident during bilateral border talks.
