Bangladesh Receives Over $35.5bn in Remittances in FY26

Bangladesh received $35.59 billion in remittances during the 2025-26 fiscal year, marking a 17.35 percent increase from the previous fiscal year, State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Haque Nur said.

He disclosed the figure on behalf of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury in reply to a written question from reserved-seat lawmaker Nilofar Chowdhury Moni during Thursday’s Parliament session.

Bangladeshi expatriates sent home $35,589.39 million in remittances during FY26, the state minister said.

Saudi Arabia was the largest single source, with Bangladeshi expatriates sending home $5,848.87 million from the country.

Remittance inflows from the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and Malaysia also increased significantly, he said.

The United States, which ranked first among remittance sources in the previous fiscal year, fell to fifth place in FY26, sending $3,033.15 million to Bangladesh.

Oman, Italy, Kuwait and Qatar were also among the major sources of remittances.

The significant rise in remittances from Bangladeshi expatriates in the Middle East and Europe has provided some relief to the national economy, Nur added.
