Sudden Rain Brings Relief to Dhaka Residents
After several days of sweltering temperatures, a sudden downpour provided much-needed relief to residents in Dhaka on Saturday evening.
The rainfall, which began at around 7 p.m., lowered the temperature in the capital to 29°C, offering respite from the intense heatwave that had been gripping the country for days.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the rain was triggered by a brief monsoon shift.
Before the rain, temperatures had soared across the country, with Dhaka reaching a high of 37.2°C, marking one of the hottest days of the year so far.
Local residents welcomed the rain, which not only alleviated the oppressive heat but also temporarily reduced high humidity levels, leading to a noticeable improvement in air quality.
Heatwave Continues in Several Districts: BMD
On Saturday evening (April 5), the storm and rain began around 7 p.m., with reports of heavy rain and gusty winds coming in from various parts of the capital, including Mouchak, Malibagh, Farmgate, Banglamotor, and Mogbazar.
Meanwhile, the BMD issued a warning for inland river ports, indicating that rain and thunderstorms could bring gusty winds of 45-60 km/h in areas including Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Faridpur, Dhaka, Tangail, and Sylhet. The department has advised river ports in these regions to hoist cautionary signal number one (r).
