
The Election Commission on Friday night issued the official gazette notification for 297 newly elected Members of Parliament following the 13th national parliamentary election.
Voting took place on Thursday from 7:30am to 4:30pm at 42,779 polling centres across the country. Alongside the parliamentary polls, voters also participated in a nationwide referendum.
According to commission officials, a record 51 political parties contested the election. Major parties such as the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Jatiya Nagorik Party fielded candidates.
In total, 2,029 candidates ran in the election, including 1,755 nominated by political parties and 274 independents. Women made up 80 of the contestants. The commission allocated 119 electoral symbols for the polls.
Meanwhile, the Parliament Secretariat has begun preparations for the swearing-in of the newly elected lawmakers. Officials are focusing on protocol, security and essential services to ensure the oath-taking ceremony proceeds smoothly, marking a significant step in the formation of the new government.
