BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said concerns over the national election have largely eased following Tarique Rahman’s return to Bangladesh from London.

Speaking to reporters on the Dhaka University campus before visiting the grave of July uprising activist Sharif Osman Hadi, he, however, said conspiracies are still there in different forms.

“Conspiracies always exist, and it is not possible to predict everything in advance. But Tarique Rahman’s return to the country has largely removed the conspiracies and concerns surrounding the election,” Fakhrul said.

He also said BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman showed political wisdom by deciding to visit the grave of slain Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

The BNP leader said Tarique Rahman’s arrival at a time of political complexity has made the political situation easier.

“With his return, the ideology of Bangladeshi nationalism has once again come to the forefront,” Fakhrul said.

He said nationalism is the most suitable political philosophy for the freedom and emancipation of the people.

Referring to Tarique as the future prime minister, Fakhrul said, “Tarique Rahman’s popularity has now reached a peak, and we believe that through this popularity, along with his new thinking and plans, a new direction will open in the country’s politics.”

Fakhrul expressed optimism that when the election is held, Tarique will achieve significant political success.

Tarique Rahman visited Dhaka University on the third day of his return to the country and offered fateha at the grave of Sharif Osman Hadi.

He also offered fateha at the grave of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, located beside the Dhaka University Central Mosque.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrived on Dhaka University campus earlier to accompany Tarique Rahman.

Tarique returned to Bangladesh on Thursday after nearly 17 years abroad.

His homecoming has drawn widespread attention and strong emotions among BNP leaders, activists and supporters across the country, with party leaders describing it as historic, reports UNB.
