Gano Forum has signed the July Charter joining the list of political parties endorsing the political accord initiated by the National Consensus Commission.

Gano Forum’s acting president and valiant freedom fighter Subrata Chowdhury and general secretary Dr Md Mizanur Rahman signed the charter on behalf of the party at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday, said a press release of the Commission.

Senior party leaders including presidium member Advocate A.K.M. Jaglul Haider Afrik, Women’s Gano Forum Convener Advocate Sagarika Islam, and organizing secretary Mirza Hasan were present at the event.

Professor Ali Riaz, Vice-Chair of the National Consensus Commission, said Gano Forum has long been part of Bangladesh’s democratic movement and efforts to build a democratic culture.

He congratulated and thanked the party for being closely involved in the process of reforming the state structure.

July Charter a social contract, says Prof Riaz

Commission members Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, Safar Raj Hossain, and Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, were also present.

With Gano Forum’s signing, a total of 25 political parties have now endorsed the July Charter.

The NCP and four left-leaning parties are yet to sign though the opportunity remains open, reports UNB.
