Canadian envoy meets Jamaat Ameer

Canadian High Commissioner to Dhaka Ajit Singh today met with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman at his office at Bashundhara in the capital.


Canadian High Commission’s Political Councilor Marcus Davies, Senior Trade Commissioner Debra Boyce and Political Adviser Nissar Ahmed were present in the meeting.

Referring the upcoming national election of Bangladesh as an important milestone in the path to democracy, the Jamaat Ameer called for Canada’s full cooperation and technical assistance to hold the election in a free, fair and acceptable manner.

In addition, constructive discussions were held on establishing sustainable democracy in Bangladesh and ensuring independent role of democratic institutions.

They hoped that the bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Canada will be strengthened further in future. 

Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Central Executive Council Member Mubarak Hossain and Jamaat Ameer's Foreign Affairs Advisor Professor Dr Mahmudul Hasan, among others, were also present in the meeting, reports BSS.
