President Mohammed Shahabuddin

President Mohammed Shahabuddin has said the spirit of the July Uprising must be upheld to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh, free from injustice and fascism.

In a message marking July Mass Uprising Day, the president described the historic event as a powerful revolt by the youth and the masses against years of deprivation, misrule, corruption, enforced disappearances, abductions, killings, and the denial of basic democratic rights.

He noted that the core objective of the July movement was to dismantle the discriminatory and oppressive system, restore democracy, empower the people, and ensure freedom of expression.

"The aspirations of the July Uprising should guide the reform process, leading to a just and equal Bangladesh through a genuine democratic transition," he said.

Reflecting on the events of 22 July 2024, the president said students, workers, and citizens united in resistance against fascist misrule and secured a decisive victory.

He extended his greetings to the freedom-loving people and paid deep tribute to the martyrs of the uprising who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for democracy and justice.

The president also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and expressed profound gratitude to those who were injured, disabled, or lost their eyesight during the uprising.

He emphasised that it is a sacred duty of the state to ensure justice for the families of the martyrs and injured, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fulfilling this responsibility.

He concluded by wishing success for all the programmes organised to mark the day.
