Prof. A Z M Zahid Hossain, convener of Bangladesh Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad (BSPP), a pro-BNP platform, on Friday slammed the incidents of mob violence in the country.

Even the children are now familiar with the words. Many may say about the shocking incident of 28th October in Paltan but it's time to learn a lesson from the past.

He was speaking at a rally organised by BSPP in front of National Press Club in protest against what they say the attempt to destroy the democratic environment of the country.

He said that the movement for restoration of democracy and the right for vote for last 17 years has been taken to the final shape on August 5 last year through the student-people’s mass uprising which forced the fascists to flee, reports UNB.

It also raised hope that the people no longer need to take to the streets for democracy. But, "we are noticing that some people are moving away from the respect for rule of law and nurturing authoritarian attitudes even after 11 months of the uprising".

“Conspiracies are being hatched meticulously in many ways and that’s why it was the responsibility for us to restore the destroyed Election Commission, law enforcement force and judiciary soon so people get justice", said Zahid.

Saying that BNP isn’t just a party, it also is a democracy, he added, “We always said that don’t destroy the unity of 5th August. The fallen fugitive fascist is conspiring to fail you. But you didn’t hear. That’s why a lot of unwanted incidents occurred.”

“Suddenly, a group of people used slanders about the acting chairperson of BNP, Traque Rahman, and many made fun about Ziaur Rahman and our leader Khaleda Zia on social media who fought for democracy. This is not political manner or language, rather the language of fascist.”

Condemning the attack on NCP leaders in Gupalganj he added, "we said again and again not to destroy unity. The fascists’ have a lot of looted money and unlicensed arms. So they attacked openly".

Zahid believes that the election will be held in the middle of February and said don’t play hide and seek with the democracy. “Give back the peoples’ right. The people will give the responsibility of running the country to those they think fit.”
