A BNP delegation is set to meet Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus on April 16 to discuss key issues surrounding the upcoming national election and necessary reforms, following the party's formal request for a meeting.

The meeting will take place at the Chief Adviser’s official residence, State Guest House Jamuna, at 12:00 noon, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed confirmed to UNB on Wednesday.

The BNP had previously requested an appointment with the Chief Adviser to address the growing uncertainty surrounding the national election. "We have sought time to meet with the Chief Adviser, and after our meeting, we will discuss the election issue," Salahuddin said.

He stressed the importance of obtaining a clear and structured roadmap for the upcoming national election. "We will urge the Chief Adviser to present a definitive roadmap for the national election, ensuring the elimination of instability and uncertainty surrounding the process," Salahuddin added.

The BNP leader also emphasized that a clear election timeline was critical not just for resolving the election issue but also for restoring political stability and boosting economic activity. The delegation will further request Dr. Yunus to ensure that the election is held in December, providing adequate time for the interim government to organize the polls.

“We have already discussed this with the Election Commission, and they have assured us they can complete all preparations by June,” Salahuddin said.

Previously, the Chief Adviser had also assured the BNP that efforts were being made to ensure the election occurs by December, Salahuddin noted. However, due to conflicting statements from various parties, he called on the Chief Adviser to clarify the situation.

Another BNP Standing Committee member, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the party would also raise concerns about the ongoing reform process. "We want clear answers on when the election will be held," the member said.

The BNP’s Standing Committee had agreed on Monday to meet with the Chief Adviser to address the confusion over the interim government’s position on the election schedule. Salahuddin also mentioned that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, currently in Singapore for a health check-up, is expected to return in time to attend the meeting.

The delegation intends to send a strong message to the Chief Adviser, insisting that the BNP will not accept any attempt by the government to extend its power beyond June next year.
