BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday accused the interim government of mirroring the rhetoric of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina when discussing elections and reforms.

Speaking at an Iftar gathering for journalists in Chattogram, Khosru demanded the restoration of voting rights and an immediate announcement of the election date.

“The only way to ensure the people’s freedom is through a fair election, but under the pretext of reforms, the process is being unnecessarily delayed,” Khosru stated.

He criticized previous authoritarian governments for depriving citizens of fair elections by promoting development narratives, and accused the current government of following the same tactics.

The event was attended by Chattogram Metropolitan BNP Convener Ershad Ullah, former Member Secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar, and several senior journalists including Jahidul Karim Kochi, Moazzemul Haque, Jasim Chowdhury Sabuj, Saleh Noman, Riaz Haider Chowdhury, and Saiful Islam Shilpi.
