A Dhaka court on Thursday annulled the results of the 2020 Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election and declared BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as the mayor of DSCC.

The ruling was made by Judge Md Nurul Islam, of the Dhaka First Joint District Judge and Election Tribunal, as confirmed by the defendant’s lawyer, Taherul Islam Touhid.

Ishraque, the son of the late Sadeque Hossain Khoka, former mayor of the undivided Dhaka City Corporation, was present in court when the judgment was delivered.

Following the verdict, a celebratory procession led by Ishraque took place outside the court premises.
