Bangladesh stands at a critical juncture in its democratic journey. The deep-seated political divisions have time and again stymied progress, leading to an electoral process marred by distrust, boycotts, and allegations of unfair practices. At the heart of this impasse is the need for meaningful electoral reforms that can restore public confidence and ensure fair representation of all political forces. The time has come for all political parties to set aside their differences and work towards a unified goal: a credible national election under an impartial interim administration.

One of the most promising solutions to break this deadlock is the formation of an Interim Government led by Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus. A figure of international repute, Dr. Yunus commands immense respect both at home and abroad for his integrity, vision, and unwavering commitment to social justice. His leadership could serve as a neutral ground for political reconciliation, allowing for much-needed reforms before the nation heads to the polls.

The necessity for basic electoral and political reforms cannot be overstated. Key areas such as the independence of the Election Commission, voter registration integrity, prevention of political violence, and equitable media access must be addressed before the next general elections. An interim administration with Dr. Yunus at the helm can spearhead these changes in a non-partisan manner, ensuring that no political group is unfairly disadvantaged.

The major parties must recognize that a truly competitive election with broad participation will only enhance the legitimacy of governance. They should engage in constructive dialogue. The people of Bangladesh deserve a democratic process that reflects their aspirations rather than serving as a battleground for political rivalries.

The international community has consistently emphasized the importance of free and fair elections in Bangladesh. With a history of electoral controversies, the country has an opportunity to set a precedent by embracing a reformed process under a trusted, neutral interim government. Such a move would not only strengthen democracy but also bolster Bangladesh’s standing on the global stage as a responsible and mature democracy.

We urge all political stakeholders to embrace this pragmatic solution. The future of Bangladesh is too precious to be held hostage by political discord. By coming together to support an impartial election process, our leaders can pave the way for a stable, prosperous, and truly democratic Bangladesh. The time to act is now.
