The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will meet United Nations (UN) Secretary General António Guterres today, 15 March, during his ongoing visit to Bangladesh. The meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Hotel InterContinental in the capital, Dhaka, according to BNP media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other senior party representatives will attend the discussion with the UN chief.

Guterres arrived in Bangladesh on 13 March for a four-day visit, at the invitation of Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus. On 14 March, the UN Secretary General met with the Chief Adviser at his office before traveling to Cox's Bazar, where he visited Rohingya refugee camps and attended an iftar event with around 100,000 refugees.

Earlier in the day, Guterres met with Bangladesh's foreign affairs adviser, discussing the country’s ongoing reforms and changes. He expressed gratitude for Bangladesh's close cooperation with the UN and its generosity toward the Rohingya refugees. Additionally, Guterres thanked Bangladesh for its strong commitment to peacekeeping efforts.

Khalilur Rahman, the Chief Adviser’s representative for Rohingya issues, also met with Guterres to discuss the ongoing crisis in Myanmar’s Rakhine State and preparations for a high-level conference on the Rohingya and other minorities in Myanmar.
