Bangla Academy President Prof. Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq today asserted that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has lost her ability to govern the country due to her extended period of misrule, oppression, and widespread corruption.

"Through the July uprising, the students and the general public ousted the fascist regime, reigniting the spirit of Amar Ekushey," he stated at a 'shadow parliament' event titled "The July Uprising Has Proved That the Spirit of Amar Ekushey Lives On," hosted at the Film Development Corporation (FDC) in Dhaka.

The event was organized by Debate for Democracy, with its chairman Hassan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron presiding over the session.

Prof. Fazlul Huq condemned Sheikh Hasina, accusing her of considering herself the absolute ruler, which led to her ordering the deaths of innocent civilians. He also claimed she had effectively dismantled the judiciary, law enforcement, and administrative systems for her own gain.

The Bangla Academy president highlighted the enforced disappearances and systematic torture of political opponents, describing them as major crimes committed under the previous administration. He pointed out that Sheikh Hasina was forced to flee the country on August 5 of last year due to a mass uprising driven by students and the people.

Fazlul Huq called on the interim government to request Sheikh Hasina's extradition from New Delhi, invoking the extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh, and to hold her accountable for the mass killings and crimes against humanity during her tenure.

In the debate competition, Dhaka Cantonment Girls Public School and College emerged victorious, defeating Saint Joseph Higher Secondary School. Prof. Abu Muhammad Rois, Prof. Dr. Tajul Islam Chowdhury Tuhin, Prof. Dr. AKM Mazharul Islam, as well as journalists Saidul Islam and Mainul Alam, served as jurists.

After the competition, chief guest Prof. Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq, along with the jurists, presented trophies, crests, and certificates to the winning participants.
