Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said the opposition has started speaking in the language of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

“All necessary steps would be taken to address the gas crisis quickly despite the challenges. The opposition is speaking in the same language as Hasina and demanding that all problems be resolved immediately,” he said speaking at a programme organised at Rangpur Shilpakala Academy to provide assistance to underprivileged people.

He urged all to allow time to resolve the crisis.

He also assured that the gas crisis would be resolved soon, saying the previous “fascist government” destroyed the country’s only gas-producing company.

Fakhrul said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman wants to develop the northern region as an agriculture-based industrial zone and called for cooperation from people in implementing the plan.

The minister also said the government is working to recover the losses caused by the US-Iran conflict. “Prices of essential goods have increased somewhat due to the situation,” he said.

Ambassador Mushfiqur Fazal Ansarey, Rangpur Development Authority Chairman Md Shamsuzzaman Shamu, reserved women’s seat MP Rejeka Sultana Fancy, Zila Parishad Administrator Saiful Islam and Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin, among other senior officials, attended the programme, reports UNB.
