Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP) has adopted a strict security stance ahead of the founding anniversary of the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned.

Authorities have taken all necessary measures to ensure public safety across the city, Police Commissioner Md. Ashik Saeed said on Monday.

Speaking to journalists after inspecting Central Nathullabad Bus Terminal in the city around 11. 30 am, the police commissioner said the BMP had implemented extensive preventive measures.

“Barishal Metropolitan Police is taking all possible precautionary steps. Whenever we receive information, police teams immediately conduct operations. Several individuals have already been arrested,” he said.

He added that striking forces, picketing teams, and reserve units would remain on standby throughout the city to maintain law and order.

“We hope that residents of the metropolitan area will not face any inconvenience,” he said.

During the visit, Commissioner Saeed also highlighted the need for renovation and improvement of the Central Nathullabad Bus Terminal. He assured that the matter would be discussed with the administrator of the city corporation to facilitate the necessary measures.

Leaders of the bus owners’ association, workers’ union representatives, and senior officials of the Barishal Metropolitan Police were present during the inspection, reports BSS.
