The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has paid tribute to former president and Liberation War hero Ziaur Rahman, recalling his contributions during Bangladesh’s independence struggle and reaffirming the longstanding ties between the two neighbouring countries.

In a message marking Ziaur Rahman’s death anniversary, the mission highlighted his historic radio address in March 1971, describing it as a powerful call that inspired resistance and strengthened the movement for national liberation.

The statement noted that his role during the Liberation War helped mobilise people in support of Bangladesh’s fight for independence and recognised his contribution as one of the country’s distinguished freedom fighters.

The Indian mission also emphasised the enduring relationship between Bangladesh and India, saying the bond between the two nations is rooted in shared sacrifices and mutual aspirations for peace and development.

The tribute came as people across Bangladesh observed the death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman, remembering his role as a sector commander in the Liberation War and his contributions to the country’s political and national development.
