BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s claim of returning to the country is nothing more than “empty rhetoric” and political grandstanding.
He also called on Hasina to return to Bangladesh and face legal proceedings if she has the courage to do so.
Rizvi made the remarks on Tuesday at the BNP central office in the capital’s Naya Paltan.
He said Sheikh Hasina’s statements about returning home reflect her habitual exaggeration and political showmanship. “If she truly has moral courage, she should admit wrongdoing and come back to face the law,” he said.
Referring to the upcoming Eid travel period, Rizvi said people are expected to celebrate Eid in a more peaceful environment this year due to improved government measures.
He claimed that unlike previous years, commuters are experiencing fewer security concerns and reduced traffic congestion on highways, crediting stronger administrative efforts for smoother travel conditions.
Rizvi also said that law and order during the Eid season has improved compared to earlier periods, making public movement more comfortable.
He added that the current government has shown early momentum in implementing its commitments and expressed confidence that future pledges made to the public would also be fulfilled.
BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, MP, and other party leaders were also present at the event.
