State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku today said the government has started taking effective and visible steps to implement its electoral commitments.

He said the BNP government has completed only two months in office and has already initiated actions to fulfil each of the pledges made by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman before the nation, adding that the programmes are being implemented in phases.

Tuku made the remarks while addressing a two-day poetry festival as the chief guest at Tangail Club this afternoon.

He said several key initiatives have already been launched, including salary allowances for imams and muezzins, introduction of family and farmer cards, waiver of farmers' loans, and excavation of canals in line with the election pledges.

Expressing optimism about Tangail's development, the state minister said the district would be turned into a more prosperous region through collective efforts.

He also stressed the need to reduce unemployment and called for cooperation from all concerned to create job opportunities for the country's unemployed youth.

Highlighting the importance of literature, Tuku said it plays a vital role in shaping a nation's intellect, while poetry helps awaken human values and inner sensibilities.

The festival was inaugurated by freedom fighter and poet Bulbul Khan Mahbub and presided over by poet Mahmud Kamal, general secretary of Tangail Public Library.

Writers, poets and cultural activists participated in the event, making it vibrant.

The two-day festival will feature poetry recitations, performances and literary discussions, reports BSS.
