BNP Chairperson and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman distributed Family Cards among 911 beneficiaries in Bogura on Monday.
The distribution programme was held at the Shaheed Zia Degree College ground in the Bagbari area of Gabtoli upazila this afternoon.
On the occasion, the party anthem “Prothom Bangladesh Amar, Shesh Bangladesh” was played, and the prime minister along with his wife Zubaida Rahman stood up and joined in the singing. Senior leaders, including Social Welfare Minister AZM Zahid Hossain, also participated.
The programme marked part of the government’s initiative to expand social protection for low-income and vulnerable families, with a focus on women-led households.
Earlier, the Family Card distribution programme was formally launched in Dhaka on 10 March as part of an election pledge to improve living standards through women’s empowerment.
Under a pilot project, Family Cards will be provided to 37,567 female-headed families across 14 upazilas by June. Each beneficiary family will receive Tk 2,500 per month under the scheme.
The government plans to issue the card in the name of the mother or female head of the household. It is also expected to be developed into a universal social ID card by 2030.
