Six Awami League activists held in city

Police arrested six leaders and activists of the banned Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies from the Paikpara area under Mirpur Model Police Station here.


The arrestees were identified as Md Jewel Rana, 35, president of Sujanagar Poura Jubo League in Pabna district and vice-president of Sujanagar Upazila Chhatra League; Al Noman Saif, 29, a worker of AGS Islamia College Chhatra League in Chattogram city; Md Julhas, 26, a worker of Chattogram District Jubo League; Emon Hossain Khan Manik, 25, a worker of Chhatra League; Md Sagar Hossain, 27, a worker of AL; and Md Ohidul Islam Sumon, 33.

Police said 30 to 40 unidentified activists of the Awami League and Chhatra League, wearing masks, gathered in the Paikpara area around 2 pm on Thursday and chanted anti-government slogans in an attempt to create an unstable situation.

On information, police conducted a drive in the area and arrested them, reports BSS. 

A case was filed against the detainees under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Mirpur Model Police Station.
