
Human Chain in Kalapara demand end to the war.
Gofran Palash, Patuakhali: A sit-in program was held in Kalapara, Patuakhali, demanding the conversion of fossil fuels to renewable energy and the establishment of a solar power plant on the land acquired by Ashuganj Company in Dhankhali area of Kalapara.
The hour-long program was held at the Press Club premises at 10:30 am on Sunday. The environmental organization 'We (Dhara) to Save the Earth' and the local volunteer organization 'Amra Kalaparabasi' jointly organized the program. Environmental activists, media workers, farmers and more than fifty people from different classes and professions participated.
Environmental organizers Mejbahuddin Mannu, Kamal Hasan Roni, Saifullah Mahmud and Nazrul Islam, among others, were spoke at the program.
The speakers said that to combat the adverse effects of climate change, the use of fossil fuels must be reduced and renewable energy must be quickly switched to. At the same time, they urged the government to take initiatives to generate environmentally friendly electricity by setting up solar power plants on agricultural land acquired by Ashuganj Company in Dhankhali.
