National Jr. Athletics begins tomorrow

Dhaka, 29 May -The 39th National Junior (age group) Athletics competition begins at national stadium Friday.

Youth and Sports Secretary Md Mahbub-Ul-Alam is expected to inaugurate the two-day meet as the chief guest at 3 pm. Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) president Major General (Retd) Dr. Mohammad Nayeem Ashfaque Chowdhury will preside over the opening ceremony.

In each event of the competition, the first, second and third  place winners will get cash award of Taka 3,000, 20,000 and Taka 1000 respectively  while and each record-holding athlete will have cash award of Taka 10,000.

The competition will feature 42 events in four groups. Of these, 14 events will be for boys and girls (under 16) and 28 events for girls and boys (under 18).

It is to be noted that due to the international football match between Bangladesh and Singapore, eight events of U-18 group (teenagers) of the competition will be held at the Outer Stadium in Paltan for the safety of the field.

In this regards, a press conference was held today (Thursday) at conference room of national stadium to provide all the details of the meet.

BAF vice president Md. Iqbal Hossain, its’ general secretary Md. Shah Alam, joint secretary Md. Kitab Ali and principal Md. Mizanur Rahman, executive member Nazir Ahmed Mallick, Firoza Khatun and convener of medical committee Dr. Moin Uddin Ahmed, were among others, present in the press conference.BSS
