Hangzhou, China, 30 Sept - Bangladesh hockey team registered their second consecutive victory in the 19th Asian Games men's hockey beating Uzbekistan by 4-2 goals in their fourth poll A match held at Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium on Saturday.
Ashraful Islam gave Bangladesh a deserving lead converting a penalty corner in the 10th minute while Ruslan Karimov restored the parity for Uzbekistan in the 17th minute.
Arshad Hossain kept again kept Bangladesh ahead in the 21st minute while Jonibek Oblokulov leveled the margin scoring the second goal for Uzbekistan in the 26th minute.
Ashraful Islam scored his second and third goal for Bangladesh in the converting a penalty stroke in the 42nd minute while Amirul Islam sealed the victory scoring the fourth goal for Bangladesh converting a penalty corner in the 52nd minute of the match.
Bangladesh will play their last group match against strong India scheduled to be held on Monday (Oct 2) at the same venue.
Earlier, Bangladesh suffered a 2-7 goals defeat against defending champions Japan in the first match and conceded a 2-5 goals defeat against Pakistan in the second match.
Bangladesh however bounced back to registered a 7-3 goal win over Singapore in their third match of the games.
Weightlifting
Weightlifting discipline has begun on the eighth day of the Games. Bangladesh's weightlifter Smrity Akter became the first in the 'B' group in the women's 55 kg weight category on the first day lifting 160 kg.
Four people participated in this group held at the Xiaoshan Sports Centre Gymnasium.
She lifted a maximum of 72 kg in snatch and 88 kg in clean and jerk. The medals will be finalized based on the performance of the 'A' group.
Shooting
Bangladesh finished 14th in the 10m air pistol mixed event on the eighth day with two shooters Shakil Ahmed and Anjila Amzad Antur scored 562.
India won the gold by scoring 577 and China bagged the silver while Iran secured bronze medal in this event.
Bangladesh's Shakil scored 280 while Anjila scored 282.
Golf
At the end of the third round, Bangladesh's Siddiqur Rahman placed at number 21 position. Siddiqur played two shots under par in the third round held at West Lakes International Golf Course on Saturday.
The ace golfer played 207 shots in three rounds. Altogether, Siddiqur played nine shots less than Par.
Another Bangladeshi golfer, Jamal Hossain, is playing two shots more than par and placed at number 39 position. He played three shots higher than Par in the third round today.
Athletics
Bangladesh's fastest sprinter Imranur Rahman, the lone athlete of Bangladesh in the 19th Asian Games, failed to create history as he eliminated from the heat of first semifinal of athletics 100m sprint held at Hangzhou Sports Center Olympic Stadium.
Imran ran in lane number eight and finished sixth position among the eight participants with a timing of 10.42 seconds.
Earlier on Friday last, Imran finished third in the heat with a time of 10.44 seconds.
His personal best timing was 10.11. If he could have done his best timing, he could have reached the final and take to the field for medal fight.
Imran is not content with his performance but he wants to take time to analyze over her failure.
He also thanked the countrymen for their support.
Boxing
Boxer Salim Hossain again brought good news on eighth day of the Games in boxing. Salim knocked out his Tajikistan's rival Asror Vakhidov in round of sixteen in the under-57kg weight category held at the Hangzhou Gymnasium.
Salim was behind in the first round of judging by five judges, but he appeared differently in second round. His Tajik rival attacked him in the third minute. As a result, he got hit on his eye and eventually Selim was announced winner after stopping the game.
Selim will compete against his Japanese rival in the quarterfinal scheduled to be held on October 3 at the same venue.
Earlier, Selim Hossain beat his Sri Lankan rival Rukmal Prasanna 3-2 in the preliminary round match of under-57kg weight category.
Archery
Bangladesh's promising archery discipline in the Games starts from tomorrow (Sunday). Selection round of men's and women's section of recurve and compound events will be on the first day.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh team hold their first practice today (Saturday) at Fuyang Yinhu Sports Center qualification field ahead of the games.
