Dhaka, 9 Oct - State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque today said the government will introduce a new textbook on sports for Class IV from the next academic year to make physical education an integral part of school curricula.
The initiative aims to promote healthy lifestyles, discipline and drug-free living among children alongside their academic studies, he said.
Addressing a reception for meritorious SSC and HSC students who achieved GPA-5 from educational institutions in Dhaka-16 at Mirpur Bangla School and College in the capital, Aminul said the proposed book would cover the benefits of sports, nutrition and healthy eating.
Urging students to set their life goals early, he said education was essential to achieving success, while sports are equally important for building healthy individuals and a healthy nation.
The state minister also outlined initiatives to improve educational institutions in Pallabi and Rupnagar and arrange separate residential facilities for teachers.
He said he had already sent demi-official letters regarding the development of educational institutions in the two areas.
He added that he would discuss teachers' housing with the education minister and, if necessary, submit a proposal to the prime minister.
Calling for a united and humane Bangladesh free from political vendettas, Aminul said the government did not want a repeat of the past seventeen years. Teachers, parents, the government and society must work together to ensure a healthy environment for students, he added.
The event was chaired by Mirpur Bangla School and College principal Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Khoshnobish.
Dhaka-16 educational institutions' board president Moinul Haque Moin, MDC Model School and College president Hafizur Rahman Sarker and representatives of various educational institutions attended the programme.
