Bangladesh women's hockey team make auspicious start

Dhaka 5 Sept - Bangladesh's U-20 women's hockey team made a flying start in the U-20 Asia Cup with a 7-0 victory over Chinese Taipei in its opening match held today (Saturday) in Moqi, China.

Bangladesh controlled the match from the outset, playing an attacking brand of hockey and keeping Chinese Taipei under constant pressure.

Kona Akter opened the scoring before Ima and Irene Akter Ria each scored twice to extend Bangladesh's lead. Captain Sarika Rimon added two goals in the fourth quarter to complete the 7-0 rout.

The emphatic victory gives Bangladesh a major boost of confidence as the team continues its campaign in the tournament. Bangladesh will play its next group match against Pakistan Sunday.BSS
