Bangladesh beat Singapore to reach final

Bangladesh women's hockey team stormed into the final of the Women's Asian Games Qualifying Hockey tournament after defeating Singapore by 3-1 goals in the first semifinal held in Jakarta, Indonesia today.


Airin Akter Riya delivered an impressive performance, netting a brilliant hat-trick to guide Bangladesh to a memorable victory. She opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a field goal to give her side an early lead in the first quarter.

After a tightly contested match, Airin struck twice in quick succession in the 57th and 58th minutes to complete her hat-trick and seal the win for Bangladesh. She was later named player of the match for her outstanding display.

The final of the tournament is scheduled to be held tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7:00 pm Bangladesh time.

Earlier, in the competition, Bangladesh began their campaign with a 5-5 draw against Chinese Taipei women's national field hockey team before registering their maiden international victory with a 3-2 win over Uzbekistan women's national field hockey team.

The team also confirmed their place in the upcoming Asian Games with a 2-1 victory against Hong Kong women's national field hockey team in their final group match, reports BSS.
