The universe is the greatest sign of power, wisdom, and harmony. It includes everything that exists — space, time, matter, energy, galaxies, stars, planets, and all living beings. Modern science explains that the universe began about 13.8 billion years ago through a massive expansion known as the Big Bang. Islam teaches that Allah is the Creator of the heavens and the earth and everything between them. The Qur’an describes that the heavens and the earth were once joined together and then separated, indicating a purposeful creation.
The universe contains billions of galaxies, and each galaxy holds billions or even trillions of stars. Our own galaxy contains our Solar System and the Sun, which provides the light and energy necessary for life on Earth. The Earth is uniquely positioned at a perfect distance from the Sun, allowing water, air, and life to exist. This delicate balance reflects precise design and planning.
Beyond our galaxy, countless other galaxies exist across the vast cosmic expanse. Although they are extremely distant and have little direct effect on our daily lives, they are part of the magnificent structure of the universe. Scientists believe the universe is still expanding and propose different possible endings, such as gradual cooling or collapse. Islam clearly affirms that one day the entire universe will come to an end, known as the Day of Judgment, the exact time of which is known only to Allah.
Throughout Earth’s history, there have been natural disasters and mass extinctions, but the planet itself has continued. However, the final destruction described in religious teachings will be universal and decisive. This reminds humanity that life in this world is temporary.
Human beings are unique among creation because of intellect, reasoning, and moral responsibility. The purpose of human life is not merely material success, but to recognize the Creator, worship Him, establish justice, protect the environment, and serve humanity. We are entrusted as caretakers of the Earth.
The universe, vast and seemingly infinite, inspires humility and reflection. The more we learn about it, the more we realize how small we are within it. Yet, despite our smallness, we are given great responsibility. The harmony of the cosmos encourages us to live with faith, wisdom, gratitude, and accountability.
In conclusion, the universe is both a scientific wonder and a spiritual sign. It calls us to think deeply, to strengthen our belief, and to fulfill our duties as rational and responsible beings on Earth.
